Professional photographer
Hi, I’m Whitney
I’ve always loved photography. The first time I ever picked up a camera, I was about 4 years old. My parents owned a Polaroid camera, and I loved how it would immediately pop out a picture for me. It got to be harder and harder to hide the camera and film from me, so eventually I was gifted my “first” real film camera. It was a hot pink Barbie camera (to which I still proudly own) and I grew to love it, even though the pictures weren’t instant- like the Polaroid.
One day, the little toy Barbie camera wasn’t good enough for me anymore, and I begged my parents for something new. My next big gift was a more mature film camera, but most definitely within budget. I used that camera up until my parents realized film for me was just too expensive regardless… so I started buying the 2 pack disposable cameras.
It wasn’t until I was 18 that I finally got a nice little digital camera. It was one of the less expensive versions but it was life changing for me, nonetheless! And again, I still own this camera.
And just like the last one, a better model came along- and I had to get it. I worked that second digital camera until it couldn’t take it anymore. When it finally died on me, I was devastated. I took it everywhere with me.
By the time I had reached my 20’s, I was fully enthralled with photography. I began modeling in order to surround myself with it even more. I knew I wanted to be a professional photographer but also realized I didn’t have a good enough camera, and wise enough to know I still needed to learn more.
I decided to go to college for photography, and it was by far one of my favorite experiences over the years. If you have a passion for something, surrounding yourself with it only intensifies the need to keep growing and learning.
While in school, I entered several competitions, and won many of them. Several pieces of my photography art hung in the AMoA (Amarillo Museum of Art). Today, they all continue to hang on the walls in my home proudly.
In 2014, I graduated with an AAS in Applied Science of Photography with a 4.0 and honors. As I walked across the stage, I was winning an award at the AMoA at the same time. It was a truly magical evening.
After having my son in 2015, I slowed down a lot. I immediately became a full time mother. Though I took a break with my work, I still took pictures of my son any chance I got. He became an amazing model!
In 2020, my husband and I made the huge decision to move somewhere better. Colorado was my first choice since I had been coming here since I was a child. My oldest sister has lived here since I was born, so visiting the area always felt like home to me growing up.
We moved to Colorado right around the time Covid hit. My son started Kindergarten at home, online. When he did get to go back to school, everyone was required to wear masks. It made “going to school” almost miserable.
Eventually, things did get better with school and the public in general. But by 2nd grade, I decided to start homeschooling my son. For about a year and half, I worked on other things, too. I dove into healing myself, and providing for my family as much as a mother can.
In my down time, I managed to write 5 books, as well as create more lasting art for me, my family, and my close friends. It has been a blessing in disguise to have had the sort of time I did/do.
Now, though I am still homeschooling my son, I do have more time and flexibility the older he gets…
I am not just a photographer. I am also an Artist. I am also a Mother. And a writer, a friend- you get the point.
If you’ve made it this far… You’re probably my kind of people.
I hope to work with you one day soon! xoxo
-Whitney
